Frequently Asked Questions

1. What file formats does this website support?

This website supports a wide range of image formats, including:
Bitmap (BMP)
Graphics Interchange Format (GIF)
JPEG 2000 (J2K/JP2)
JPEG (JPG/JPEG)
Portable Document Format (PDF)
Portable Network Graphics (PNG)
Portable Any Map (PNM)
Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)
Tagged Image File Format (TIF/TIFF)
Image format employing compression, developed by Google (WebP)
Wireless Bitmap (WBMP)

2. Can any of the file formats in (1.) be converted to any of the other file formats?

WBMP input cannot currently be converted to any other format. However, all image formats can be converted to WBMP. Some BMP formats cannot be converted to PDF because of the way the BMP format is coded.

3. What is the maximum number of non-zip files, URL links, or zip files that can be included in a single job submission?

In the Image Convert page, you can submit up to 4 non-zip files from your local machine and URL links. If you exceed the limit, an alert message will ask you to reduce the number of files and links. Only one input zip file can be submitted at a time. The number of files inside a zip file is limited only by the amount of memory available.

4. What file formats can be included in an input zip file?

An input zip file may include all the file images in (1.) except WBMP. Any files not included in (1.) are ignored and will be not be included in the output zip file. The output zip file is flattened and there is no hierarchy.

5. Is there a file size limit for non-zip files?

Yes, it may not be possible to convert very large input images due to memory limitations.

6. Is there an file size limit for input zip files?

The maximum size for a zip file is 10 MB. If you exceed the limit, an alert message will tell you to reduce the size of the zip file.

7. Are input zip files scanned for viruses?

Since viruses are always a potential threat, all input zip files are scanned. If any virus is found, the image conversion will be terminated and the zip file purged. Virus scanning is capacity limited and it's possible that some zip files will not complete the first time. If this happens, wait 5 minutes and then resubmit your zip file.

8. How are duplicate file names with different extensions handled?

If your non-zip input contains duplicate file names or URLs with different extensions, an alert message will ask you to change the file names. If your zip file input contains duplicate file names with different extensions, only one of the duplicate files will be converted along with all the non-duplicate files.

9. What happens if input file name has the same extension as the output?

If your non-zip input contains files with the same extension as the output, an alert message will ask you to change the extensions of the file names. If your zip file input contains files with the same extension as the output, these files will be ignored and only the files with different extensions than the output will be converted.

10. For PDF format, are multiple pages supported?

All single page PDF input is fully supported. Some multiple page PDF input can be converted to BMP and WBMP and will be included in the output and some multiple page PDF input cannot and will not be included.

11. How is WBMP file conversion handled?

WBMP decoder is not supported and WBMP encoder is partially supported. (See 2.) Any WBMP file in either a non-zip input or a zip file will be ignored.

12. What does the J2K viewer on the home screen do?

Since J2k/JP2 is not currently supported by most web browsers, the J2k viewer allows users to view the PNG version of a J2K file on their local machine or a J2K file specified by a URL link.

13. What does the WebP viewer on the home screen do?

WebP is currently supported by most web browsers, the WebP viewer allows users to view the PNG version of a WebP file on their local machine or a WebP file specified by a URL link.

14. What is PNM and what does the PNM viewer on the home screen do?

"PNM" is the acronym of "Portable Any Map", which is a lossless compression, i.e. no compression. Since PNM is not currently supported by most web browsers, the PNM viewer allows users to view the PNG version of a PNM file on their local machine or a PNM file specified by a URL link.

15. What is OCR? Why is it important?

OCR, which stands for "Optical Character Recognition," is a process that converts text images into a machine-readable text format. In many business workflows, information is often received from print media such as paper forms, invoices, and scanned documents. While transitioning to paperless document management is ideal, scanning documents as images presents challenges that require manual intervention. Furthermore, text within images cannot be processed by word processing software in the same way as regular text documents. OCR technology addresses this issue by converting text images into text data that can be analyzed by other business software. The extracted data can then be utilized for analytics, streamlining operations, automating processes, and enhancing productivity.

Our OCR solution supports over 100 languages, including various layouts (horizontal or vertical), ancient languages, and mathematical equations. You have the flexibility to select a single language or multiple languages for processing.

16. Is there an API available for off-line processing?

Yes, but there are some differences between the on-line processing and the API off-line processing. Please contact us for details.

17. How long will my output be available on your website?

Output will be kept for 1 hour before it is purged.

18. Are there any browser versions that are not supported?

Yes. IE is not supported. The minimum browser versions for others are: Chrome 41, EDGE 12, Firefox 17, Opera 28, Safari 9.
